Yoav Niv

I am a lawyer operating in Calgary, representing clients on criminal, quasi-criminal, and regulatory charges at both the trial and appeal levels. I also assist individuals and institutional clients in civil litigation, insurance claims, and administrative law (judicial review).

I obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Simon Fraser University in British Columbia with distinction and completed my law degree at the University of Ottawa in Ontario. I graduated on the dean’s honour list.

I articled with one of Canada’s most prominent criminal defence lawyers. Throughout law school and during my articles of clerkship, I logged over 7000 hours working with Canada’s top criminal defence teams in Toronto, Calgary, and Ottawa. I assisted the University of Ottawa’s Innocence Project and reviewed wrongful conviction claims.

I am a returning assistant instructor at the University of Calgary Law Faculty’s Advocacy Course (Civil and Criminal Sections) and at the Canadian Centre for Professional Legal Education Program (the Alberta Bar Admission Course).

I have assisted in the instruction of the University of Calgary Law Faculty’s Advocacy Course (Civil and Criminal Sections) as well as the Canadian Centre for Professional Legal Education Program (the Alberta bar admission course).
